Tim's musical journey...

Dear diary,
I feel so fortunate to have an absolute talented musician in our family.
I feel fully entertained by the sound of Tim's bass guitar or piano. It creates joy to my ears.
It is clear to see Tim has a musical gift.

Earlier today he was back at it again.
His first piano lesson this year, with new strategies put into place, to make Tim's lessons as easy as they can be, as he will now focuse towards his grade 1 exam. Because Tim is autistic, his teacher reassured him, he would definately get extra time to perform his three pieces in front of the examiner.
It was great to see his teacher, such a pro when it comes to teaching Tim, with a lot of patience along the way. I'm so grateful to have someone like him. What's more important, Tim feels comfortable and enjoys learning.
Tim's musical journey has had a few ups and downs along the way. Our very old upright piano, kindly donated to us last year, has made a difference to Tim's life. No more nightmares on buses to get to his piano lessons. Playing the piano at home has also helped Tim to focus better, in a stress free environment.

Searching for the right teacher doesn't come easy. In Tim's case, it took a while to search for someone who was willing to commit long term, because of Tim's constant struggles to sudden change. One such experience happened just before Summer last year, when Tim's favourite teacher, left suddenly without giving much notice. Of course, Tim couldn't understand why it happened and took it so badly. It was a struggle, having to explain to Tim, why it had become that way.
Just before September last year, we managed to find the right teacher. His third teacher, fingers crossed he was the right one, who would gain Tim's trust, with the reassurance of a long term commitment.
It is clear to see, Tim's musical strength is definitely playing by ear. He still struggles with sight reading, however he's getting there, learning slowly at his own pace.

Since Tim began secondary school he's had
an interest in the bass guitar. He's learnt
a bit at school and taught himself.
