A sombre mood was lifted with laughter...
Marmalade sandwiches for breakfast?
My 10 year old son woke up in the early hours in the morning with a temperature. It was another interrupted night once again. Once up I found it difficult to go back to sleep."Thankfully no getting up at 6:30 in the morning" "It's Christmas holiday and it's not over yet." I thought, as I slowly crept back into bed.
The following morning I managed to have a bit of a lay in, in order to compensate my lack of sleep, with the help of a strong coffee. I wasn't sure whether we were all still going to the cinema to see Paddington bear 2 as I planed it the night before. The film was at 12 pm. Time was ticking on. It all depended how my son was feeling. My thirteen year old daughter slowly came down and sat at the bottom of my feet. Wasn't sure whether she was still tired or something else was bothering her. The aftermath of the flu bug isn't good. It's hit her badly. She's been rundown and distance most times in the last few days or sad or angry and always finding something to complain about. I'm just about getting use to her walking around the house in a sombre mood most times, and disappearing for hours in her room. I am thankful Dad's around, and glad she finds some sort of comfort in him in a very different way. Has she out grown me? :(
Although tired and feeling completely challenged, there was a part of me who was upbeat about today. These kids needed to go out. They needed to breathe fresh air. Me too. I need an ice breaker.
I was relieved to see my son's face as he came down. He had a big smile on his face and said he was feeling much better, as we both lovingly gave each other a big morning hug.
"So this means you are well enough to go out?"
"I can't wait to see Paddington Bear 2."
"Me too."
"Great! We only have over an hour to get ready."
"Yes Mummy.
"Let me get up and make breakfast."
One hour later, my thirteen year old daughter was still looking for her lost shoes.
"Can't you put another pair! We're going to be late! It takes 15 minutes to get there!"
"Mum we are not going to be late!"
Off course we are."
Mummy I don't mind missing the trailers." my 10 year old boy said.
Eventually my daughter came down walking like a sloth, shoulders completely slouched and not exactly excited to go out.
I can't wait to see Paddington bear 2." I said.
It better be worth.
"Off course it will. Lets all go out and have a good old laugh."
"Mmm. Yeah," my thirteen year old daughter replied.
I was tired and not exactly looking my best. My hair was greasy, my tights had holes. I picked up the first pair I saw because I couldn't find the ones I wore yesterday. Great! I had to many chocolates and biscuits over the festive season and already I felt totally unhealthy and fat. We were all quiet andsombre as we all made our way to the cinema and thankfully we all arrived just in the nick of time.
"JAJAJAJA,
JAJAJAJA,
JAJAJAJA"
"JAJAJAJA,
JAJAJAJA,
JAJAJAJA
JAJAJAJA..." The screen was filled with great mirth all around.
Mr knuckles a tough criminal and Paddington bear, had us all in stitches. Good script writing and an excellent story line full of action. Our sombre moods were suddenly lifted to a more cheerful one as we all left the cinema.
"I really enjoyed it." my ten year old boy said.
"Me too."
"My favourite bit was prison. The criminals made me laugh."
"Mummy can we get the DVD when it comes out?"
"Definite we will."
"I can't believe it was filmed in Primrose Hill, Hampstead Heath and Camden town... and Hugh Grant he will always be an excellent actor."
Before heading home we all popped into Café Nero and had hot chocolate with cream and a warm toasty to keep us going. We just couldn't wait to go back home and be in the warmth with our dog.
